Currently, he has been sent to judicial custody till March 25 in the INX Media Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance case.

Defence counsels Dayan Krishnan and Mohit Mathur told the court that Karti Chidambaram's father has dealt with various stringent penal laws such as TADA, MCOCA, Unlawful (Activities) Prevention Act and NDPS Act. "He can not be exposed to any of these criminals", Krishan said.

The court, dismissing Karti's plea for early hearing of his bail application, sent him to judicial custody until 24 March.

The Delhi court ordered the jail authorities to ensure that adequate security is provided to Karti Chidambaram until March 24.

"Only keeping in view the fact of social status of accused and his father, he can not be treated different from other accused persons and can not be allowed to be kept in a separate prison", the court said.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in its plea to the court, claimed that there was enough material to implicate Karti in the case, adding that he had been non-cooperative during questioning.

Now CBI will question S Bhaskar Raman and Karti in judicial custody, in Tihar Jail. On his plea seeking separate cell and protection in Tihar Jail, the court said the jail manual would be followed.

"In view of the fact that no more police custody remand of accused is sought by CBI, accused Karti Chidambaram is remanded to judicial custody".

Opposing the security application, the CBI argued that while there may be a threat to P Chidambaram, no threat lies to Karti or his family members, as they continue to travel around the country at free will. He has cited security threats in his request.

"CBI opposing a separate prison, gives me further apprehension and shows political motive and enhances my threat perception". The second is to allow the CBI to bring the Mukherjeas to Delhi from Mumbai and identify the places where they met Karti Chidambaram.

The businessman also demanded home cooked food, medicines, toiletries and spectacles.

Karti has been in the custody of the CBI since his arrest on February 28, which was supposed to end on Friday.

Meanwhile, Karti's chartered accountant S Bhaskararaman, who is now in jail in a case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), has moved the court for anticipatory bail in the CBI case of INX Media.

The CBI initially alleged that Karti received Rs 10 lakh as bribe for the FIPB clearance.
