Troy Deeney missed a second-half penalty to get Watford back in the game as Petr Cech became the first goalkeeper to reach 200 Premier League clean sheets.

Arsenal ended a run of three successive Premier League defeats as they secured a fine 2-1 victory over Watford.

Aaron Ramsey and Laurent Koscielny were rested ahead of this week's return leg against the Rossoneri but Shkodran Mustafi's eighth-minute opener had Arsenal swiftly on the front foot.

Striker Troy Deeney stood over the ball to a chorus of boos from the home end following his comments about Arsenal after the reverse fixture in October.

"Watford were quite risky in the first half and had a few chances and then in the second half they had a penalty".

- Henrikh Mkhitaryan now has the same record this season in nine appearances for Arsenal in all competitions as he did in 22 games for Manchester United (2 goals, 5 assists).

"You cannot only respond to exterior stimulation because that can't happen every week".

The former Chelsea stopper was in stunning form as the Gunners romped to a convincing 3-0 victory over the Hornets.

The much talked about changes on the playing side are still needed in the summer and while Cech made several astute saves against Watford he has also been guilty of high-profile errors, including a miskick against Brighton last weekend.

'It had been a frustrating but you have to carry on your work, I believe I got this far through my work ethic'.
