Hamill's "Star Wars" co-star Ford says he prepared himself for the event by going back and re-watching his original screen test with the actor. A whole galaxy of stars is expected to be out in force, with the likes of George Lucas and Harrison Ford due to attend to give their own memories of Mark.
"When thinking about today, I was really sorry we don't have the other member of our trio to celebrate with us, but I feel her presence", Ford said in a touching tribute to a huge presence in the Star Wars family.
"They are the most passionate, loyal people".
"Mark Hamill is a character that can't be written", Lucas said of the animated actor while Hamill proceeded to make faces at the audience. Hamill famously did not have any lines in that film.
The Star Wars icon previously poked fun at US leader Donald Trump as he celebrated news of his Walk of Fame star last month. "I'm very proud of Mark for getting his star". "He has been the master of his own experience, his own life, and he is, as he always was, a quiet, sincere, honest person".
The announcement was made last year, but when the March 8 date was revealed this February, Hamill took to Twitter to thank his fans and all those who have supported him over the years.
"I haven't been this speechless since 'Force Awakens, '" he joked in a nod to the first episode of the sequel trilogy in which he briefly appeared but said nothing.
