After Leicester City rejected several bids from Manchester City, Riyad Mahrez opted to go on a week-long strike and the Algerian global has indicated that he does not regret the decision to spend time away from the club.

Mahrez also insists he faced no hostility from his team-mates or club figures following the failed move to City and is now firmly back in the Leicester fold.

The 27-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I was away from here because I needed some time to think, it was a hard situation".

Despite his longstanding intentions to make a move away from the club, Mahrez has been in outstanding form on the field for Leicester having scored ten goals and provided seven assists in 31 games across all competitions this season. It is behind me.

"Moving forward, I want to try to give my best for the team". At that time I thought it was the best thing to do.

"It was hard, I've always been in contact with the club".

"To be honest the club handled it very good as well".

However, Mahrez declined to say he would commit his long-term future to the Foxes."In football, players come, players leave, I'm not saying I'm coming or going", Mahrez told Sky Sports.

The Italian newspaper state his performances will have "negatively impacted" his value, although we're not too sure about that, and that, with three years left on his contract, Leicester won't be in a position to ask for the same amount of money they did in the summer.

Mahrez's 97th-minute free-kick rescued a point for Leicester against Bournemouth last weekend, and the Algeria global insists his mind is "focused on Leicester" and their remaining fixtures.

The Foxes favourite slapped in a transfer request in January shortly before Manchester City had a £60million offer, plus Patrick Roberts, thrown out by Leicester, who valued the 27-year-old at £90million. "My mind, focus is on Leicester, that's all I'm focused on. But at the moment I'm a Leicester player and all is good here".

Mahrez also brushed off the hoax retirement announcement posted on his Facebook page this week. I think everyone knew it was a hack.
