It makes sense for Activision to look into another Black Ops game because Black Ops 3, launched back in 2015, is still selling strong. However, it appears to have some familiar elements, as the trailer features quick teases from previously released Call of Duty games. Then Gamestop leaked the news, with a series of pictures showing stock codes for Black Ops 4 merchandise. And today's announcement confirms the logo was legitimate. In a couple of months on May 17 though there will be a community reveal where I think it is safe to assume that we will see the first trailer for Black Ops 4. More details are expected to come out on May 17, and like previous year, it's very likely that we will get some actual game footage or a trailer at some point during the National Basketball Association playoffs.

Which is a few weeks earlier than normal for a new Call of Duty.

With Ubisoft announcing The Division 2 earlier today, it's now Activision's turn to reveal a sequel. Activision has now announced Call of Duty Black Ops 4, revealing an October 12 release date.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, or, if you prefer, Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII, is coming on October 12 as the latest installment in the first-person shooter combat series. This will secure Black Ops 4 ahead of the critical holiday sales period and coincide with Activision-Blizzard's fourth quarter earnings.

"The Black Ops storyline so far has covered the Cold War, near future, and a further time period in 2065".

On Call of Duty's website players now have the option to link their Battle.net accounts along with their Steam, PlayStation and Xbox accounts. Trying to generate a little interest in the game, Black Ops 4 has been described in marketing materials as "a revolutionary gaming experience".
