A man accused of stealing Frances McDormand's best actress Oscar from an official after-party has been arrested, Los Angeles police said on Monday.

Messages left seeking comment from Oscars presenters Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences were not immediately returned. Bryant reportedly handed over the trophy without resistance.

A representative for has McDormand since told the publication that the star was "happily reunited" with her award and that "Fran and Oscar" were "enjoying an In-N-Out burger together".

Per USA Today, McDormand, 60, was celebrating her Best Actress win for "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" at the Governors Ball when her trophy was swiped. Bryant, dressed in a tuxedo, said in a video posted on Facebook. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences issued a statement in the wake of the incident, saying: "Best Actress victor Frances McDormand and her Oscar were happily reunited after a brief separation at last night's Governors Ball".

The man who briefly stole Frances McDormand's Oscar before being chased down by celebrity photographer Alex Berliner has been arrested. Booked in the early morning hours, his bail was set at $20,000.

Buckley tweeted a photo of said suspect mugging for the camera with the gusto of a man who just, well, won an Oscar, after a photographer for chef and caterer Wolfgang Puck somehow managed to track him down later that night.

McDormand had been at the ball in part to get her name engraved on her second career Oscar.

Bryant posted a short choppy video of the Academy Awards red carpet.

"Academy Awards baby for music", Bryant said in the almost three minute Facebook video.

"Who wants to wish me congratulations?" he asked fellow revelers who were walking by, before posing for several selfies.

Bryant was also captured on video leaving the ball while brandishing the award to photographers, one of whom confronted him after not recognising him as a victor.
