The incident happened in Thaliparamba area of Kannur.
The police have launched an investigation into the case.
Meanwhile, despite increased vigilance and the ruling NDA government strongly condemning vandalism, another statue of BR Ambedkar was smeared with paint in Chennai on Wednesday night, reports said.
Incidents of the toppling of statues have been reported from certain parts of the nation. While several BJP members celebrated the bringing down of Lenin's statue, party National Secretary H Raja took to Facebook to warn that Dravidian and anti-caste revolutionary EV Ramasamy, who is popularly known as Periyar, would be next. "PM also spoke to HM in this regard & has expressed his strong disapproval of such incidents".
