Gujarat Assembly witnessed angry scenes on Wednesday after BJP MLA Dushyant Patel sought to know if the narco test of Congress leader P Chidambaram's son Karti could be conducted at Gandhinagar's Forensic Science laboratory.

The agency is likely to move another application seeking the court's direction to issue production warrant against Indrani Mukerjea, former media baron who is a witness in the money laundering case and now jailed in a murder case, and Chidambaram's chartered accountant S. Bhaskaraman.

Extending Karti's custody, Judge Sunil Rana said it was "necessary" for the "purpose of further and complete investigation and interrogation of the accused".

Karti's name had cropped up in the case relating to the Foreign Investment Promotion Board's (FIPB) approval granted in 2007 for receipt of funds by INX Media when his father and Congress leader P Chidambaram was the finance minister during the previous UPA regime.

"After seizing of mobile, if the accused says that he will not give his (phone's) password and tells you to go to hell, this is called non-cooperation", Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Tushar Mehta, who appeared for the CBI, said.

The firm was owned at the time by Peter and Indrani Mukerjea, who are now in jail on charges of murdering Indrani's daughter Sheena Bora. The Enforcement Directorate has also registered a money laundering case.

Mehta informed the court that the investigating agency had unearthed new and significant "materials" that demanded further custodial interrogation. He was answering questions from 9 am to 6 pm every day.

The arrest of Karti came nine months after the CBI registered an FIR against him on charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, accepting gratification by corrupt or illegal means, influencing public servants and criminal misconduct. The apex court has also issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate on the PMLA case registered against him.

INX Media is being probed by both CBI and ED over the allegations that Karti Chidambaram had received kickbacks from the media house.
