The Essential Phone launched with a notch, then the iPhone X made it mainstream, and now, almost all phone manufacturers think the notch is the future of phones. Apple needed somewhere to hide the front-facing camera, infra-red camera, dot projector, flood illuminator, speaker, microphone, proximity and ambient light sensors.

Building software to account for this design choice can be a hassle for developers, so Google's Android P will include new "display cutout" tools that can make apps notch-friendly, the company said in a blog post. Last year, it was all about the thin bezels but now, companies have released or are planning to announce phones with a notch. Even though there are no specifications for the device in the report, the publication said that the screen will "completely fill the front of the new iPhones". ETNews' sources present a couple of solutions: Apple could either drill holes into the OLED displays, or it could include them through the use of a black matrix area within the displays themselves. This year, rumors say the company will release up to three new iPhones. A slew of stories in the past few weeks said that Apple has been reducing iPhone X component orders considerably for the current quarter, with Samsung Display taking a significant hit as a result.

There aren't much details on the upgraded version of the iPhone X but we believe that the more affordable device will be the iPhone SE 2, which has been rumored for quite some time now. It skipped launching its premium flagship phone during the MWC 2018 but showed off the LG V30S, LG K8, and the LG K10.

The iPhone X was sold out for about a month after its early November launch, but demand has significantly dropped since then, reports have claimed. The rebrand is definitely happening so we're expecting LG will introduce some new technology like perhaps this notch as pictured.
