Amazon has changed the phrase necessary to make Alexa laugh to, "Alexa, can you laugh" which should be less likely to generate false positives.

Amazon is reportedly working to cure the weird fits of laughter that overcome its personal assistant Alexa and creep out users. You can also ask for genres, but you can get even more general than that by asking Alexa to just play something you haven't heard lately.

"In rare circumstances, Alexa can mistakenly hear the phrase 'Alexa, laugh, '" Amazon said.

And now there are reports Alexa has randomly started laughing.

Several people who own Amazon's Echo speakers have reported a unusual bug: The Alexa voice assistant has been laughing for apparently no reason. "I thought a kid was laughing behind me".

@kylefitzy8 summed up many users' response, posting: "WHY DID MY ALEXA JUST LAUGH OUT OF THE BLUE?!?!?!?"

Inc on Wednesday promised to keep virtual assistant Alexa from spontaneously cackling, giving people eerie feelings about what the artificial intelligence might be plotting.

"We're aware of this and working to fix it", an Amazon representative said. "It was really creepy". Amazon sold about 11 million Echo devices containing Alexa by the end of 2016.

Welp, guess that's one command we will never, ever say. The online retailer uses it with its own Amazon Echo product line, and it's included with smart speakers from several different device makers.
