Several people have been injured in a knife attack in Vienna on Wednesday, Austrian news outlets reported. It has now been cordoned off by police as they search for clues.
Pedestrians were attacked at random by a man wielding a knife near the capital's famous Prater Park at around 7.45pm local time. It also houses much of Vienna's small Jewish community.
"According to eyewitnesses a man has attacked three persons - a man, his wife and their adult daughter", police spokesman Patrick Maierhofer told The Associated Press.
A manhunt was launched, with both police and Vienna's tactical police unit WEGA deployed to the scene and surrounding area.
Police said the unidentified knifeman was being hunted by officers, and that the motive and exact circumstances were as yet unknown.
The alleged attacker managed to flee the scene and is still on the run, Austrian media report.
Asked what was known about an assailant, he added: "Absolutely nothing".
