A man allegedly chopped off his teenaged son's hand as he was angry at the youngster for being addicted to his smartphone and watching porn on it for hours.

Qayyum Qureshi (45), a butcher by profession, was arrested this morning. His son is an assistant at a local cable television operator.

'The father has been booked under section 307 of Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder) and taken into custody, ' Reddy said.

The incident took place in Kamalapuram village in Bhadrachalam district, and a picture of the tied-up boy had gone viral on social media.

A couple of days ago, Khalid reportedly revolted against his father who warned him against the addiction.

It is unclear who rushed Khalid to the hospital following the incident. On Monday the father out of anger chopped off the son's hand at the elbow with his butcher knife and surrendered himself at the police station.

Family members told authorities that Khalid was one of the four children of Abdul Qayyum and he was very lazy and spent most of his time on the phone. He had got addicted to watching movies and adult videos on his mobile and this annoyed Qayyum, as it was affecting his work and health. The reports suggested that the accused father chopped off his son's hand after he got frustrated over his addicting of watching porn on his mobile phone and masturbating constantly. However, he came back at night and started watching movies again. He returned home late in the night.

The hand, slightly above the wrist, was severed with poor chances of recovery, the police said.
