Three players tied for the top time in the 40-yard dash time among the defensive backs at the NFL Scouting Combine on Monday.

That's what happens in the latest 2018 National Football League mock draft from CBS Sports, which has the Denver Broncos making a move up the board to land USC's Sam Darnold, jumping up two spots and swapping with the Indianapolis Colts.

At quarterback, Wyoming's Josh Allen and Baker Mayfield of Oklahoma both helped their stock by throwing at the combine, but to me, Mayfield continues to separate himself from the pack and quiet the skeptics who constantly raise questions about his attitude. PFF's Steve Palazzolo sees former Virginia Tech linebacker Tremaine Edmunds as the Chargers' pick at No. 17 overall in the first round. Then there is a built-in excuse with the fourth pick and the quarterback.

All of this and Tunsil still went No. 13 overall to Miami in the '16 draft.

Chandler never made it in Tampa Bay by the time Indianapolis used the Buccaneers draft pick after starting six games, all of which he lost. The Pittsburgh Steelers took him in the sixth round with the 215th overall pick. "I'm not going to say one person's better than me". The standard is not to draft backs that high, nor trade up to get one high.

It was time for the pass rushers, defensive linemen and linebackers to strut their stuff. Baltimore, New England, Cincinnati, Washington, Los Angeles Chargers, Steelers, and Saints could take a quarterback to develop behind a veteran. Whichever team drafts him must be comfortable that Allen's 56.2% completion rate won't follow him into the NFL. Fitzpatrick is expected to be the first safety off the board, but James proved to be the more explosive athlete at the Combine.

The first few picks of the draft still appear to be a toss up. The Giants, who seem interested in drafting Barkley as well, now feel comfortable trading out of two. Before the combine, he was likely a top five pick, but now, there is no way he gets past the third pick. The Giants haven't had a dominant running game in years. They lack a tight end but they aren't using a high pick there. The medical tests and player interviews are just as crucial in the pre-draft evaluation process.

Teams typically fall in love with one quarterback.

DARNOLD'S DODGE: USC quarterback Sam Darnold refused to throw at the combine, preferring to show off his arm at his upcoming pro day with receivers he's used to playing with. The Giants are in the market for a quarterback, too, although they're committed to 37-year-old Eli Manning at the moment and appear to be in a win-now mode.

NFL.com believes kicker Michael Badgley has a "better-than-average chance to make an NFL roster", while offensive guards Kc McDermott and Trevor Darling (not invited to the combine) and cornerback Dee Delaney are viewed as players who "should be in an NFL training camp". But we are in it now, and are ready to move on, through the Combine, through free agency, through the draft, into OTAs, and beyond.
