He was being held on $30,000 bail as of this afternoon, according to the San Francisco County Sheriff's Department.

Smith was reportedly involved in a domestic altercation on Saturday and fled the scene before police arrived and identified him as the suspect. Smith shared a cryptic photo on Instagram Sunday amid reports that police were searching for him.

He is now facing misdemeanor charges of willful infliction of corporal injury, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, false imprisonment and vandalism (less than $400). The victim in the incident - believed to be Smith's fiancé - suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A source says police successfully worked with his attorney to get him to surrender so he could be processed on the pending charges.Smith was drafted by the Niners some seven years ago but was released form the team in 2015 after a string of arrests, the last one involving a hit and run. As police responded, dispatchers said the fiancee told them he left the residence through a window and drove off in his SUV.

"I'm anxious for him".

His friends and former colleagues are decrying the lack of support and treatment the National Football League has afforded him.

He had been on the suspended list since late 2015 for violating the NFL's policy on substance abuse. On Saturday, the day the domestic violence incident allegedly occurred, Smith is said to have drank two bottles of tequila.

Two days later, Smith resurfaced when he turned himself into a San Francisco jail on Tuesday, according to Evan Sernoffsky of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Adding to his problems are financial woes that include past-due child support and a six-figure balance on a credit card.
