- Gas prices are down a bit in northern New England.

Gas prices in South Central Ohio are up by a penny this week to $2.316 per gallon, according to AAA East Central's Gas Price Report.

AAA Northeast's February 26 survey of prices in MA finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.49 per gallon.

Shelby County has the lowest county average price for gasoline at $2.16.

Now, with analysts projecting prices will increase "a minimum" of 20-30 cents per gallon this spring, costs could return to - or exceed - levels not seen since hurricanes Harvey and Irma provided a 1-2 punch in late summer.

Gasbuddy.com says the average price per gallon fell almost 6 cents to $2.44 a gallon.

For the first two months of 2018, gas prices have been running higher than the last three years.

Spring is right around the corner, and so is an increase in the price at the pump.

"No matter what happens with oil, any curve ball to this work has a tendency to act as a spark in the combustion process - something will likely ignite gas prices, but it's unpredictable when and to what degree", he said.

Gas prices in the Lima region have decreased 19.6 cents since last week, according to prices reported to GasBuddy.com.

"March typically comes in more like a lamb and goes out like a lion, and I certainly would expect more fireworks at the pump as temperatures begin to warm and gasoline demand begins to perk up", said Patrick DeHaan, the head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy.

AAA said a survey it conducted recently found that 40 percent of consumers would change their driving habits or lifestyle if gas hits $3 a gallon. The heavier your vehicle, the more fuel it uses.

Gas prices are taking a slight bump across the State of Texas.

Heading into summer, a variety of factors including US gasoline supply-demand levels, domestic gasoline production rates, and global crude demand will help better shape the summer forecast.

As crude prices bounce around, US crude production continues to soar.

That figure is 197 more rigs than last year's count at this time. "Prices are the cheapest seen this February".

This marks the third week of drops, but don't expect that to continue much longer. Motorists can find current gas prices along their route with the free AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad, and Android.
