In 2014 at the Sochi Games, the Canadian hockey star knew what it was like to wear gold after her team made a seemingly insurmountable two-goal comeback with just minutes left to stun the USA 3-2 in overtime of the title game.

The first Olympic tournament featured two of the biggest names in the history of women's hockey - Cammi Granato of the United States and Hayley Wickenheiser, who won four gold medals for Canada after the initial defeat.

The scores were level at 2-2 after five penalty shots each, but USA's Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson scored past Shannon Szabados before Maddie Rooney saved from Canada's Meghan Agosta.

Team USA celebrates its gold medal win during the Women's Ice Hockey match against Canada. "I'm feeling excited for them. The guys are pumped".

"We're extremely proud of our Boston College players who made the Olympic team", said Katie Crowley, head coach of the Boston College women's hockey team.

"It was a couple different injuries that kept me out of the lineup all year", she said, her face twisting in pain.

"Emotions run high at the Olympic Games, and never more so than in a gold-medal game, but at all times we expect our program to act professionally and demonstrate sound sportsmanship", said Davidson.

DRUGS IN SPORT: Russia's Olympic Committee (ROC) has paid $15 million to help develop worldwide anti-doping efforts as part of the conditions set for the country's possible return to the Games.

As thrilling as the Olympic women's hockey final was, it sparked yet more debate on settling gold medal games with a shootout. "U.S.!" when the win was sealed. The U.S. scored first, but Canada took over in the second period and scored two goals, taking the lead.

Team Canada lost to the United States in the Olympic men's curling semifinals on Thursday morning, ending their chance at a gold medal. Knight's goal came with 25.4 seconds left in the first period, but the lead didn't last long into the second as Marie-Philip Poulin and Haley Irwin both tallied for Team Canada.

The first time U.S. and Canada played each other during the 2018 Winter Olympics, Canada won 2-1.

Championship regulations state: "The medals have to be worn by the players around the neck in respectful manner for the duration of the closing ceremony and the following post-game mixed zone and media conference procedures. We wanted gold but didn't get it". Short-track superpowers South Korea were knocked out of contention halfway through the race after a fall left them three-quarters of a lap adrift and it was a miserable night for the hosts, who also crashed out of the women's 1,000-meter final and the men's 500-meter final.

They're one of us.

"It's great skiing, but it reminds me of something that (US skier) Buddy Werner used to say", Kildow told USA Today Sports. "You feel like you've let a country down". The only other time Team USA has played for a medal was in 2006 when they won bronze.
