Asensio's second tally before the 53,500 fans present was Real Madrid's 6000th La Liga goal, making them the first club to hit that mark in the Spanish First Division.

In the dying minutes of the game, Madrid were offered the ideal chance to end hopes of any late shocks. He doesn't stop. There comes a moment when it's necessary for everyone to not play from time to time.

A lot has changes since Leganes shocked Real Madrid in the cup quarters last month.

They did not say how long he will be out, but the news is a worry with their Champions League last 16, second leg away to Paris Saint-Germain just two weeks away. "It's what we try to prepare for every week", the Frenchman said in his pre-match press conference. The defender dived in front of the ball as Madrid left back Theo Hernandez tried to clear it from near the goal line. We want to continue like this, we have had hard times so we want to take advantage of this good spell. "We've got to accept what football is about and try and come from behind".

"The message is always the same, but there are many factors that come into play". Alongside him in midfield will be Ruben Perez, who will be the creative outlet for Leganes, looking to get into advanced position to set up Claudio Beauvue.

With Ronaldo nowhere to be seen, it was Ramos who volunteered to slot home the spot-kick, and he dispatched it smartly into the bottom-right corner of Ivan Cuellar's goal.

The win lifts Zidane's side above Valencia and into third in the standings on 48 points after 24 games, 14 behind leaders Barcelona and seven behind second-placed Atletico Madrid.

"We can be happy with all that". Real Madrid have rediscovered their scoring touch and are the favourites to progress to the Last 8 stage of the Champions League ahead of a high flying PSG side.

The home side continued to test Real, despite Zidane bringing on Gareth Bale and Marcos Llorente late to on to provide some much needed energy for his side.
