According to CNN, a contracted driver who was supposed to transport reporters to Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago compound on Monday has been briefly detained after security officials discovered a firearm on him.

According to a reporter who witnessed the incident, the driver said he had forgotten to leave the firearm in his personal auto.

Monday's was Trump's first public appearance since Friday, when he met with first responders and injured victims of the high school shooting in Parkland, Fla. The other van drivers were also removed from the motorcade and White House staffers drove the vans instead.

When you're on White House pool duty in Florida, much of the daily reporting on the president's activities involves waiting in vans while President Trump goes between Mar-a-Lago and his golf course.

An early morning security screening in a parking lot across the street from Mar-a-Lago revealed the driver assigned to the press was armed.

"At no time was any Secret Service protectee in danger or impacted", the Secret Service said in a statement.

When press loaded back into vans, the driver was being questioned by an officer in a nearby tent.

Another press van clipped a Secret Service auto once it was on the grounds of Trump International Golf Club.

President Trump was at his Trump International Golf Club property in West Palm Beach on Monday. The president was scheduled to return to Washington, D.C., Monday afternoon, after capping off President's Day weekend at the resort he calls the "Winter White House". Damage to vehicles appeared to be very minor and no one was hurt.
