In a sarcastic tweet, the Congress MLA said, "If Sardar had been Prime Minister, neither would RSS exist, neither BJP be born, nor Modi Ji would have become Prime Minister".

She said Modi should apologise to Chowdhury and the nation "for speaking in a manner which encourages disrespectful behaviour towards women". Interacting with masses in their local language, Prime Minister called for the change of Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPI-M) led state government.

"Let me remind them about a debate in the Rajya Sabha on July 7, 1998, LK Advani as home minister of the country said in reply to a question that a multi-purpose identity card will also be used for passport, driving licence and others".

Smriti Irani defended Prime minister by saying, Renuka Chowdhary can not use woman card to trivialise her act in Rajya sabha.

Dev also said the allegations of the police snooping on a woman in Gujarat while Modi was the state's chief minister would "perpetually haunt" him.

Soon after Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu condoled the death of former member Frida Topno and completed the important business of the House, Congress members rose from their seats and started protesting against Modi's remarks on Chowdhury's laughter.

"Ramayana serial ke baad aisi hansi sunne ka saubhagya aaj jaake mila hai".

Chowdhury laugh, had said that he had last heard such laughter in the serial Ramayana. "I express my shock at the utterly sexist and downright distasteful comment against a Member of Parliament, made by none less than the Prime Minister of India".

Senior Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma termed Modi's remark as "condemnable". "Ask any woman, she would not accept it", she told journalists outside Parliament.

On Thursday, women MPs of the Congress raised slogans against Mr. Modi in the Rajya Sabha, forcing an adjournment. Rajya Sabha Chairman remarked that such behaviour is unbecoming. He then adjourned the House till noon.
