Phoenix now holds the third-worst record in the Western Conference, which means Orlando will receive an early second-round pick in the loaded 2018 NBA Draft.

The Magic are getting the Suns' 2018 second-round pick. It is the second most favorable between Memphis (18-36), Charlotte (23-30) and Miami (29-26).

Payton started all 44 games in which he has appeared for the Magic this season, averaging 13 points, 6.3 assists, four rebounds and 1.5 steals over 28.6 minutes per game. He is shooting 52 percent from the field and 37 percent from three-point range. He's been one of Orlando's worst defenders this season, and considering he's a restricted free agent this summer, the Magic probably didn't want to pay him. He is making $3.3 million and will enter free agency with a qualifying offer worth $4.5 million. The organization had been hopeful to find a young playmaker to play alongside shooting guard Devin Booker, who has been sidelined with rib and hip issues during the last few games.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski was first to report the deal. Brandon Knight's ghost wasn't getting the job done at point guard.

Phoenix had a need for a point guard after shipping disgruntled Eric Bledsoe to the Milwaukee Bucks earlier this season.
