R.J. Adelman, a former National Basketball Association assistant coach and the son of longtime National Basketball Association coach Rick Adelman, died after being struck by a moving vehicle while crossing the street on February 2 in Houston.
According to Click2Houston, the 44-year-old Adelman was crossing the street near the intersection of Main Street around noon.
R.J.'s brother, David, is an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets. "I was fortunate to work with R.J. for several years during my playing days in Sacramento and grew to respect him profoundly on many levels". The Harris County medical examiner determined Adelman died as a result of blunt force injuries, according to TMZ.
The driver who struck the victim was questioned by officers and then released. However, we're told the accident is still under investigation.
R.J. worked with the Rockets while his father was the head coach and also worked with the Timberwolves when Rick went there to coach. He followed his father to the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2011, working as Director of Player Personnel.
"The Rockets organization is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former assistant coach R.J. Adelman".
