The Belgian striker completed the final piece of a three-way transfer merry-go-round on transfer deadline day with Olivier Giroud joining Chelsea from the Gunners in an £18million move.

Giroud has signed an 18-month deal at Stamford Bridge, where he will provide much-needed competition for Alvaro Morata. The Gabonese forward comes to the Emirates for a club record £56 million fee.

"Chelsea is one of the biggest teams in the Premier League", Giroud said in the club release.

"But I wanted to move already last summer and it didn't work out, but now it had to".

"I think the club has such a big history and great players like Thierry Henry", Aubameyang told the club website shortly after putting open to paper on his contract.

"I suppose it's a good signing, the fact that you're getting an experienced target man who can play in the Champions League". He persuaded the Arsenal board to pay more for the 28-year-old than the £46.5 million it shelled out for Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette last August.

Asked what his qualities are, he added: "Some people would say my mental strength because I have been through some hard periods in England, especially the last two years". Since then, he has established himself as a starter at Arsenal.

Giroud rejected offers from other teams including from the Bundesliga and revealed that it was the Chelsea boss who determined his move to the Champions. While Michy Batshuayi scored two goals, I did not sense enough hunger in his play. "I'm really happy, like I said before".

"Giroud arrives with a wealth of experience and a proven pedigree at the highest level having scored goals regularly in the Premier League, in Europe and on the global stage, where he has represented France at three major tournaments".
