The festivities kick off in Pyeongchang, South Korea, at 8 p.m. local time Friday, which is early Friday morning in the U.S. As a result, the opening ceremony will be shown on television Friday night, and much of the Winter Games will also be on a tape delay.

The International Olympic Committee had refused to invite the group of Russians, saying it had evidence of alleged doping in Russian sports.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport handed down its rulings Friday, less than nine hours before the opening ceremony.

The team event is making only its second appearance at the Olympics, having debuted in Sochi, where the US took home bronze. The live coverage from PyeongChang will begin Friday, Feb. 9 at 6 a.m. ET on and the NBC Sports app, and will feature the pageantry and the Parade of Nations with world feed graphics and the event's natural sound (without commentators). Several other countries, including Japan and Switzerland, have also opened similar centers within the Olympic venue.

Where will be the Opening Ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics be held?

Perhaps it was deliberately scaled down as a gesture of goodwill to South Korea and rapid rapprochement ahead of the Olympics. The site of the opening ceremony was built specifically for the objective of the Winter Olympics.

Ha Hyun-woo of the band Guckkasten, Ahn Ji-young of the musical duo Bolbbalgan4, Jeon In-kwon with his band Deulgukhwa and Insooni will sing the theme song for the Winter Olympics Torch Relay, "Let Everyone Shine".

The name Soohorang is derived from the Korean words "sooho" meaning "protection" and "rang" comes from the middle letter of "Ho-rang-i" meaning for "tiger".

Countries are due to march in order according the Korean alphabet. As per that, India will be 61st to enter the Stadium.

Keep an eye out for speed skater Cheyenne Goh, the Canada-born 18-year-old who will make history by flying the flag for Singapore and so many more unheralded athletes from across the globe.

Why is Soohorang Selected as 2018 Winter Olympics Mascot?

The Opening Ceremony or any part of the 2018 Winter Olympics will, unfortunately, not be aired in India on TV.

Sir Hugh Robertson, the chair of the British Olympic Association, also stated his support for the decision: "It's clearly disappointing that we are still talking about this on the eve of a Winter Olympics", he said.
