The combination of snow and ice will cause tough travel conditions in major cities like Boston and NY on Wednesday because of slippery roads, with snowy conditions expected to change into rain by late Wednesday evening in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C.

The storm system began moving into the region late Tuesday night prompting some schools to make early decisions to delay.

Winter Storm Liam's path is bringing a combination of ice, snow, and rain across the Ohio Valley and the Northeast on Wednesday, causing thousands of flight delays and hundreds of cancelations across the country.

The heavy snow will continue through Wednesday night and most of the day Thursday before tapering off Thursday evening.

"Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve". Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel hard over some locations.

A snowfall warning is also in effect for the rest of the East Kootenay, including Kootenay National Park.

Winter storm warnings have been issued for most parts of southern Alberta, with up to 50 centimetres of snow expected in some parts of the Rockies.

This latest system is coming on the heels of significant snowfall over the weekend, where some areas in Alberta recorded over 20 centimetres of snow. FOX 5's Mike Thomas has tracked the storm throughout the overnight and morning hours and says the morning mix will lead to a dry period before rain moves in. "Total snowfall accumulations could amount to 15" or more in some spots between Thursday and Friday evenings.
