WhatsApp has started beta testing WhatsApp Payments in India.
Now, WhatsApp is testing out an easy payment feature so users can send and receive money securely.
However, if you are not able to see the payment option, it is not a cause for concern as this update is only for selected beta users.
Speaking about the feature itself, it's based on UPI. The payments will be done through UPI (Unified Payments Interface) but for now, it's showing a list of banks along with the linked bank account. This indicates the final stage of inclusion of WhatsApp payments system on the Android app. As per the reports of this new video calling feature, a user can add up to three other users in the group video call. Only the users with version number V2.18.21 on iOS devices will be able to see the payment option.
However, the WhatsApp UPI-based payment service will work only if both the sender and receiver have the WhatsApp payment option enabled.
Where to find the payment option?
The new feature shows up in the list of Attachments alongside Documents, Gallery, Audio, Location, and Contact.
We will keep you updated with the developments but for now, it is the WhatsApp 2.18.41 version that we are using and in which the feature got available, but we think it is only limited to select user accounts and not for a particular app version. You need to select the account and verify it as you do in the other UPI-based payment services.
When reached for comment on initial reports about WhatsApp payments, the firm gave the following statement previous year: "India is an important country for WhatsApp, and we're understanding how we can contribute more to the vision of Digital India".
