The low that will set off the weather event on Wednesday slowly starts to make its move into the region tonight with a couple of spotty flurries mainly in areas to west before the main area of precipitation enters the region in the early morning hours on Wednesday. As the warm front pushes northward, though, temperatures could warm just enough to see a transition even in the northern counties to a wintry mix of sleet, snow and freezing rain.

Eyewitness News Chief Meteorologist Wayne Hart says the main concern will be from 9:00 Tuesday evening through the morning drive Wednesday because of the combination of freezing rain and snow.

Our forecast model shows the rain will be developing in Yellowstone County and Billings throughout the afternoon with snow developing just to the north and east of the city. In Hadley, they're expecting 2 and a half before the slush comes in, and in Northampton they're ready for anywhere from 4 to 8 inches.

Clouds will increase tonight with low temperatures dropping into the 10s and 20s and winds diminishing. West winds 10 to 20 miles per hour.

Temperatures are expected to plummet overnight into Thursday, which is expected to be sunny and cold.

Thursday: Cold with sun and clouds.

While most of the snow showers from that disturbance remain to our north on Friday, a few snow showers and flurries could clip northern areas towards the Poconos and northwestern New Jersey. High: mid-upper 30s.

What will contribute to the freezing rain, White explained, is a phenomenon what occurs when the air just above the ground is above freezing. Highs in the lower 40s. The next chance of unsettled weather would come in the form of rain and not until the middle of next week.
