Stanley Johnson called the addition of Blake Griffin "a breath of fresh air".
That swagger could be the ultimate ingredient to bringing this team back to the playoff scene.
For all the good things Griffin brings to the Pistons, this will be a hard matchup because of the one thing he can't do - provide scoring at the guard position. A group that was becoming stale and, for some, hard to watch is now fresh and exciting.
For the Blazers, it should be a simple gameplan; get Lillard and McCollum going early, ride them as long as possible and then defend better than they did at Boston. "I think we can see a little bit of progress". Drummond helped lead Detroit to a 3-and-0 record last week while averaging 19.3 points, 19.0 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 2.7 blocks and recording three double-doubles. The victory Monday pulled the Pistons back to.500 and even with Philadelphia for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Drummond and Bullock scored 10 points apiece before the break, while Napier led the Blazers with eight points. "He's able to handle the ball, he's a great playmaker". "He's going a great job of adjusting right now".
"Getting a 20-20 is not easy; it doesn't happen a whole lot".
"The offensive energy was very high", Drummond said.
The Pistons won their fourth in-a-row.
Ish Smith failed to make much of an impact in the first half, but started cooking with gas in the second. "The assists are spread out across the board".
The Blazers shot only.394 from the field, including 10 for 33 from 3-point range.
Griffin said the Pistons must play harder than other teams to compensate for a lack of chemistry, which is still developing.
"As far as I'm concerned it was (legit)", he said.
Van Gundy staggers his rotation so that either Griffin or Drummond are on the floor at all times. "The best part is that you look how many guys got involved - it wasn't just one or two guys with a bunch". Also, the team is defending well with him.
"I really enjoy playing with him". I don't think we have anybody that can't find their opportunities.
King says Patricia has taken that teaching philosophy first instilled in him by his parents with him at every stop he's made.
"Guys that physical, you don't really pay attention to how skilled they are", Johnson said. He's talking to teammates (on the court).
The Pistons are 4-0 since they made the trade for Blake Griffin and Griffin has sucked most of the oxygen from the room - to his teammates' delight. The five-time All-Star was acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers a week ago.
How about 25 assists and two turnovers - a gaudy 12.5:1 ratio - over the four-game win streak?
