For 39 years, Whole Foods Market has been the world's leading natural and organic foods retailer. This will be two hour delivery from Whole Foods store to its prime members in neighborhoods of Austin, Cincinnati, Dallas and Virginia Beach. The new service is available daily from 8 a.m.to 10 p.m.

The company said that it plans to expand the offering across the US throughout 2018. And last week, Amazon announced that its flash-deal-dispensing Treasure Truck vans would make stops at Whole Foods locations.

This can be possible by visiting their account on Amazon website or via its Prime Now app.

Those pickers will not necessarily be Whole Foods staffers. "We're going to be expanding".

The company opened its first bricks and mortar cashierless supermarket Amazon Go in the bottom floor of its Seattle headquarters last month, where shoppers scan an app as they enter before simply picking up their items and leaving.

Not every item in Whole Foods stores will be available for Prime Now delivery, Landry said.

It's the latest development following Amazon's $13.7 billion acquisition of Austin-based Whole Foods previous year, and a threat to other grocery delivery services - namely Instacart, which also offers two-hour delivery from Whole Foods and several other grocers. Select alcohol is also available for delivery to customers. Grocery delivery service Instacart, for example, also offers delivery of Whole Foods items within two hours.
