Two policemen accompanying the prisoners collapsed. The death toll stands at two.

Gaping holes in the security setup came to light following Tuesday's escape of Hunzullah from the Out Patients Department (OPD) of Karan Nagar's Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital, in which two policemen were also killed.

Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said the audacious attack and subsequent escape of a Pakistani terrorist from a Srinagar hospital two days back was a well planned and executed conspiracy that threw open chinks in the security setup. "The motorcycle used for the escape has also been seized".

Sources said the incident happened at around 11:30 am following which the police sounded a red alert in entire Kashmir Valley, particularly in Srinagar. Police officials said the militants were possibly waiting inside the hospital when the inmates were being brought for the medical check-up. We could have fired in hospital but we would have killed civilians. "I thought an encounter had started but the firing stopped suddenly".

Shakeel Bhat, Tika Khan, Rahil Kachroo and Mohammad Shafi are the four people arrested in connection with Jhatt's escape, police said.

Jat is known to be a close associate of Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Abu Qasim, and was arrested from Kulgam in 2014. Police said that Jat was involved in three murder cases in 2013 in Pulwama and was facing trial in a number of cases across Kashmir. "It can not be coordinated without that", Director General of J&K police, SP Vaid told NDTV. "A manhunt has been launched in the entire belt to re-arrest the militant".

Sources said that Naveed alias Hanzula Jaat is still at large.
