After slamming the ball through, Porzingis came down awkwardly and fell to the court, immediately grasping at his left knee in pain. That also explains why the Instagram users and fans of the Knicks were not pleased with the post made and saw it as a tasteless move from the team. It's been irritating. And, more than a few times, it's even been downright embarrassing. On Tuesday night in a loss against the Milwaukee Bucks, unicorn Kristaps Porziņģis would leave with a serious-looking leg injury.

When the Knicks visited Milwaukee last Friday, it took a Giannis Antetokounmpo layup with two seconds remaining to seal a win, while past year, Antetokounmpo famously hit a fadeaway jumper at the buzzer to seal a memorable Bucks win.

Shams Charania of The Vertical reported soon after the news broke that Porzingis was scheduling the surgery to fix the torn ligament.

Oh, the heartbreak. Oh, the bad timing.

Porzingis had 11 30-point games this season, compared to three 30-point games in his first two seasons. The 22-year-old certainly deserved a better ending in what was a truly remarkable breakout year.

The Knicks now drop to 23-32 on the season, which puts them in line to grab the 10th pick in this summer's draft. On the season, Porzingis entered Tuesday night having played 47 games with averages of 22.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game. By playing so well, he basically accelerated his own growth. Durability has been an issue for the 7-foot-3 Latvian, missing a combined 26 games through his first two seasons in the league. Sadly, he'll have to miss the All-Star Game and will be replaced very shortly.

"More than a basketball player, he's my brother", Knicks center Enes Kanter said. "A lot of stuff runs through him".

Porzingis had more than capably filled Anthony's shoes as the face of the franchise on and off the court. This All-Star Game was supposed to be his coming-out party, a sure sign that he had arrived and that the Knicks were on their way.
