And just like the dog, the local Chinese New Year celebration is proving to be just as popular.

As was recently announced by Blizzard, the Overwatch Lunar New Year event will be beginning on February 8, shortly before the Year of the Dog actually begins.

Along with the changes to the mode, an entirely new map is also coming.

"One side of the map is ancient and shows some temples that is very, very gorgeous and the other side is bright and attractive and very modern", said Kaplan in the developer update posted by the Overwatch team on Tuesday evening. The Ayutthaya map is designed specifically for capture the flag and will feature both ancient and modern themes.

Kaplan said that Winston's leap, for example, will cause the flag to drop if he's holding it. "If the two teams are tied at the end of time; what will happen is both teams flags are moved closer to the center of the map and then the map resumes at that point and the teams will go for the flags and then they only have a very short distance to cap".

It's also expected that last year's skins will return, although perhaps consider the change in theme, Blizzard might opt to slightly tweak the ones that were offered last year. We know that they're not very exciting and they can feel very anticlimactic. Players will be able to play the game on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Picking up the flag will also be instant from here on in, which should also speed things up. "We call these "restricted abilities", said Kaplan.

In addition to the new map and updated mechanics, Blizzard will host a four-week competitive season for Capture the Flag.

Though skins are a given, this Overwatch Lunar Year event also brings more meaningful content. "The games are much more offensive and much more action packed".

A new Overwatch event can only mean one thing: new Overwatch character skins.

As is customary now in Overwatch, the Lunar New Year Event is returning with the Year of the Dog, bringing along with it a load of new Overwatch skins. Last Year's seasonal cosmetics will be available for purchase at a discounted price as with all seasonal events.
