The kidnappers have been identified as Nitin and Ravi. The incident of kidnapping in Shreshtha Vihar in east Delhi had come at a time when security had been tightened in and around Delhi ahead of Republic Day celebration on January 26.

On January 25, the boy was kidnapped by two masked men on a motorcycle when he was going to school with his sister around 7:30 am from Shahdara. They had held the bus driver at gunpoint threatening to shoot him if he raised an alarm as they kidnapped the child. One of them, Ravi, was declared dead. In the shoot-out one of the kidnappers Ravi was killed and his associate Pankaj suffered injuries to his leg.

"The police started scanning all the CCTV footage and established that the kidnappers before executing the incident had conducted a recce", police sources said. The bus stopped at GTB Enclave area where the kidnappers forced themselves into the bus and asked for the boy's details to the teacher at gunpoint.

Days ago, a 12-year-old girl was grabbed by some men in Gurgaon, who pushed her into their auto and drove off while she was returning home from her father's workplace with her sister.

As soon as the boy was kidnapped, the teacher informed the school authorities, who in turn went to the police station. Both of them kept their helmets on. "The woman attendant was questioned at gunpoint, and she eventually pointed to a boy sitting alongside his sister on the last seat". When the bus driver protested they fired at him.

"Police rushed to the spot and took the driver to GTB Hospital, from where he was referred to Safdarjung Hospital", another officer said. The child, according to the reports, was not wearing his school dress or ID card as he had to take part in a fancy dress competition.
