23-year-old Ankit Saxena was stabbed on Thursday evening in west Delhi's Raghubir Nagar, allegedly by the family members of the girl he was in love with.

Ankit, a photographer, was in relationship with a Muslim girl, Shehzadi, when he was on his way to meet her. The incident occurred at 9 pm on Thursday. The girl's father and uncle stabbed him with a chopper and slit his throat with a knife while two other people held his arms.

The girl has now been sent to a shelter home after she expressed fears that she may be killed too or harmed by her family members if she went back home.

The Delhi Police has arrested three accused persons while the fourth accused - a minor - has been detained and on Friday requisitioned the services of the Central Para-Military forces to maintain law and order in the area as the victim belonged to the majority community and the accused persons belong to the minority community.

When Ankit's mother tried to help him, she was attacked by the girl's mother. I told them my son was innocent and that they could call the police to find out. Ankit and the woman met when they were neighbours but her family shifted to a different location after they got to know of the relationship.

During the course of the investigation, police learnt that a fight broke out between the parents and the 20-year-old woman over her relationship with Ankit after her younger brother discovered some intimate messages on her mobile phone.

Speaking of the murder, the police told India Today: "The motive behind the murder is clear as his purse and mobile were still on him". The girl's family members are the main suspects behind the murder of her boyfriend. Police said the stepped-up security is a precautionary measure.

Police registered a murder case at Khyala Police station and has begun interrogating the accused. She also accused them thrashing another man at his home because they believed he was eyeing their daughter.

"Spoke to Ankit's father". I even asked them to search my house. When panicked people told her they some people were stabbing her son, she rushed out but could do nothing to stop them. "When he did, they started beating him up on the street", Saxena said. She has spoken out against her family, and said that her family killed Ankit.

The attack took place around 0900 hours and was reported to the police by a hospital staff, the police said.
