The Gunners were running the risk of losing Ozil on a free transfer at the end of the season and Manchester United had registered their interest in signing the 29-year-old this summer.

Aubameyang signed a three-and-a-half year deal at the Emirates Stadium yesterday following an agreement of a club record fee of £56m between Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund.

The midfielder has been stalling signing a contract renewal with the north London club as he wanted to wait and see what the Gunners' perspective and long-term plan was whilst awaiting any approach from his preferred suitors of United, Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Gabon worldwide Aubameyang is expected to be announced as a Gunner at some point today before the transfer window closes at 11pm tonight.

Arsenal's results on the pitch were mixed in January, and while Olivier Giroud's sale to Chelsea for just £18 million is a negative, Ozil's prospective new deal is another much-needed plus point.

And news which will cheer up Arsenal supporters after the shock loss to the struggling Welsh side is that Ozil will put pen to paper on a deal worth close to £305,000-a-week.

They made an audacious offer to bring Ozil to the Far East this month, with the wages amounting to around £22m-per-year. "Hopefully, we will manage to do that very soon", the Frenchman said last Friday. He previously revealed his love for London and Arsenal in an interview with Goal past year.
