Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday took notice of the murder of Asma Rani, a third-year medical student who was shot dead for refusing a marriage proposal.

Asma, a third-year student at a medical college in Abbottabad, had come to see her family in Kohat during session break when the incident happened, SHO Kohat Development Authority police station Gul Janan said.

The chief justice questioned how the suspect was able to flee the country.

Kohat police have stated Sadiq was present when Mujahid opened fire on Rani.

Police had lodged an FIR in the case on the complaint of Muhammad Irfan, Asma's brother. He said the KP police is free and independent, and that the incident should not be given a political tone. The brother was arrested from Kohat and moved to an unknown location where investigation is underway.

"Mujahid Afridi went to Saudi Arabia on Saudi Airline flight 889 at 9:pm on Umrah visa", DPO Kohat said. He said that a committee comparison DPO Kohat, SP Invetigation and other officials has been formed to investigate the incident.

In her initial statement given at the hospital, Asma had identified Mujahid Afridi as the person who had fired at her. She was shot thrice and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she died on Sunday, SHO Janan said.

However, PTI leader Aftab Alam has sympathised with the victim's family and strongly condemned the killing. "Both the accused are nephews of PTI's district president", he added.

State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb said the murder case of Aasma Rani is extremely sorrowful and condemnable.
