Since the news of her casting broke, the show's cast have taken to social media to express their delight - including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Laura Dern.

Actress Reese Witherspoon is ecstatic that Hollywood veteran Meryl Streep has joined the cast of Big Little Lies.

"Big Little Lies" fans are getting an unbelievable gift in Season 2. News that some big stars had reached out expressing interest in joining the show.

Streep will play Mary Louise Wright, the mother to the abusive Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgard), who (spoiler alert!) was revealed to have been the one who died during the Emmy-winning first season of the David E. Kelley drama based on the Liane Moriarty novel.

Meryl Streep has signed up to star in the second season of hit show Big Little Lies. Apparently her character, Mary Louise Wright, is "concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren" and arrives in Monterey "searching for answers".

Kidman and Witherspoon were recently reported to be receiving quite a pay raise for the second season, each set to earn an estimated $1 million an episode (leaping from their $250,000 - 300,000 earnings in Season 1), while Streep will reportedly be banking $800,000 an episode according to Variety. Marriage, friendship, and parenting will come into question and relationships will be tested.

Streep, who received her 21st Oscar nomination this week for The Post, has not done much television work over the years, though she has won three Emmys, the last in 2004 for the HBO miniseries, Angels In America. Her litany of film credits include her Oscar-nommed role as the titular character in 2016's Florence Foster Jenkins, along with Ricki and the Flash, Into The Woods, Julie and Julia, August Osage County, and Mamma Mia!
