The accident took place aboard Carnival Elation when the woman plunged "several decks below", a statement from Carnival Cruise Line spokesman Vance Gulliksen read, according to the Miami Herald.

A search effort has been launched for the overboard passenger and the Carnival Care team is supporting family and friends during this very hard time.
Maureen La Bryer got a text from her daughter, Megan Burdewick, saying her cabin was near the woman's room and "there was blood everywhere", the Miami Herald reported.
The cruise ship departed from Jacksonville, Fla. on Thursday and was on a 4-day trip to the Bahamas, News4Jax reported.
The company went on to say their thoughts and prayers are with the deceased and her family.
Friday's incident is the second death aboard a Carnival Cruise Lines ship in recent months.
Zion Smith, 8, fell off the fifth-story deck of Glory while the ship was docked at a Miami port in October 2017.
The ship's arrival at Freeport, Bahamas was delayed because of the incident.
And in February 2017, Kevin Wellons from Georgia fell overboard from the Carnival Elation near the Bahamas.
After searching more than 1,300 square miles, the Coast Guard called off the search for Wellons a day after the incident.
