Sony Is Getting Their Own Collectible Figurines with Totaku

Style similarities to previous toy ranges, such as Nintendo amiibo and Disney Infinity, are readily apparent. Now it seems Sony is attempting to do the same, but decided linking figures to game content wasn't actually worth the effort. Available exclusively at GameStop in the United States (and GAME in some European regions, apparently), the "Totaku" collection is launching with 10cm "highly detailed" figurines of Kratos from God of War, Crash Bandicoot, LittleBigPlanet's Sackboy, Tekken's Heihachi, PaRappa the Rapper, Hunter from Bloodborne, and WipEout's Feisar FX350.

PlayStation teamed up with GameStop's merchandise outfit ThinkGeek to launch a new set of collectible memorabilia for gamers.

It is a neat little collection and one that even I (as a predominantly Xbox and PC player) am quite interested in. The only hurdle may be the fact that ThinkGeek is a Gamestop brand, which means that PlayStation Totaku is, at least for the time being, a Gamestop-exclusive product. Amiibos, on the other hand, are equipped with NFC or near-field communication function.

After the bank Nintendo's made on amiibo from collectors alone (forgetting, for a moment, game functionality) it surprised me to step back and realize that neither Microsoft nor Sony has done the same with its properties. They're mainly for display and have individual series numbers in order to encourage fans to collect them all. The first series will release on March 23, 2018 and we are excited to see more in the future.
