Wilson continued to fire at the officer with a shotgun after getting out of his vehicle, the outlet said.

Knoxville police said an officer was shot Thursday night in front of a northeast Knoxville shopping center and the suspect is still on the run.

"Evidently, he thought that was his only way out", said his father.

Wilson said he is thankful that the deputy is okay, and he wants his son to turn himself in so no one else gets hurt.

Officer David Williams is out of the hospital after being shot.

Wilson, who faces an attempted murder charge, is "listed in a database as an Aryan Nations gang member", the AP reported. There is a reward of up to $2,500 offered for information that leads to his arrest. Police said information was developed in the investigation that indicated Kristin Denise King may be in danger.

Ronnie Lucas Wilson, 31, is believed to be the motorist who jumped out of his vehicle and without warning opened fire multiple times on Officer Jay Williams, who had pulled him over on Washington Pike in Knoxville about 8:30 p.m.

Authorities ask anyone who sees Wilson to call E-911 immediately.

Rausch said the officer is not believed to have fired his weapon. Knoxville Police also mentioned that Officer Williams did not return gunfire.
