Arsenal boss Wenger said Sanchez would only be allowed to leave if they could get a new signing over the line - the club have been linked with young Bordeaux forward Malcom.

However, Arsenal sources claim there is growing optimism around the latest set of talks, with the club hopeful of securing the playmaker for around £300,000 a week.

A reunion between Sanchez and his former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola at City has always been touted, with the Premier League leaders reported to have tabled a £20million for the Arsenal star, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

"I said hello, he is a great player and he knows in my first season in Juventus we tried to buy him from Udinese and he made a decision to go to Barcelona", Conte said, ahead of his side's Premier League meeting with Leicester City.

"No, it doesn't worry me personally", the Germany global said in quotes reported by The Guardian.

Manchester United and Tottenham were also interested in the young Brazilian but have since turned their heads to other transfer targets namely Alexis Sanchez and Ryan Sessegnon.

That form has helped propel Guardiola's side to the top of the Premier League and into the last 16 of the Champions League.

When asked if United were interested in signing the 29- year-old Chilean worldwide, who is out of contract at the end of the season, Wenger said "nothing is really concrete at the moment".

Manchester United stepped in the negotiations and are willing to offer more money and a player (believed to be Henrikh Mkhitaryan) for the Arsenal superstar.

Sanchez is still mostly interested to join Manchester City, but the league leaders unwilling to pay around £35 million may curtail his chances to rejoin with former manager Pep Guardiola.

Guardiola said: "I'm focused on Liverpool, believe me". However, since Arsenal were not able to get Thomas Lemar from Monaco, they were not ready to sanction the sale of one of their best players without a replacement.

"But in relation to Alexis Sanchez I don't say a word, the only word I can say is he is a phenomenal player, apart from that an Arsenal player and I feel I shouldn't say much more than this". "And you will have more and more players going to the end of their contract because of that".

"As a professional, you'd have to say that the balance of power is starting to come back to an even keel nearly and then going City's way". Then he insulted me for a second time and now I change. I don't know, I don't know how I can answer you. You have to try and that's it.
