49ers' linebacker Reuben Foster blossomed into one of the NFL's best young defensive players during his rookie season with San Francisco, but another off-the-field concern popped up for Foster as he was charged with second-degree possession of marijuana.

A statement from the 49ers Friday night said: "The San Francisco 49ers organization is aware of the matter involving Reuben Foster and we are now gathering all relevant facts".

Foster entered the draft after being sent home early from the NFL's annual scouting combine in Indianapolis after he got into an argument with a hospital worker and had a urine sample show up as diluted.

Foster is now subject to league discipline for the marijuana charge.

As Foster slipped from a potential top pick to the end of the first round, the 49ers scooped him up and immediately inserted him as a starter at linebacker. Foster had his draft party sponsored by a vaporizer company. We spoke with Reuben about that and felt comfortable about that situation as well. It sure sounded like he had a long day, which you can imagine. He started all the games that he appeared in, finishing the year with 72 tackles and a pass defended. Foster missed six games with a knee injury in the 2017 season.
