Thomas Davis will play in 2018, but the expectation is that it'll be his last season.

Davis and linebacker Luke Kuechly formed one of the best linebacking tandems in the league over the last few seasons.

"Being in my 13th year, I'm pretty sure coming back next year that it will be in a reduced role", Davis said. He wants to follow through with his contract, which got an extension earlier last offseason. One of the reasons is I want to continue my contractual obligations. "Shaq [Thompson] has definitely earned the right, and when you look at [David] Mayo, he's coming along".

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Davis told a reporter that the 2018 season will be the final season of his career.

Davis, 34, wasn't named to his first Pro Bowl until 2015, but became a cult favorite in Charlotte due to his perseverance through a string of injuries including three torn ACLs between and the gnarly surgery scar he proudly displayed in Super Bowl 50, the result of surgery to fix the broken left arm he'd suffered in the NFC Championship Game two weeks earlier.

Davis started all 15 regular-season games he played this past season, but his tackle total was down to 76, his lowest in a full season since his rookie year in 2005. Davis also helped the Panthers to a berth in Super Bowl 50, playing in the game less than two weeks after having surgery on a broken forearm suffered in the NFC Championship Game.
