Now, ultimately this decision will be up to Nurmagomedov, in terms of fighting for an interim belt, but, clearly the pressure's mounting on McGregor to make a decision.

For all the intrigue and discussion that has surrounded each of the UFC's current weight classes, perhaps none carry the level of attention that has been fixated on lightweight in recent times.

UFC lightweight powerhouse Khabib Nurmagomedov teases a fight announcement this week leaving many wondering if he'd be facing UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson or the undisputed (but MIA) champion Conor McGregor. [Khabib Nurmagomedov] will fight in April first with Tony Ferguson, and then we will receive a date for a fight with [Conor] McGregor.

"We have many good fighters who can fill the arena - Alexander Volkov, Gadzhimurad Antigulov, Mairbek Taisumov".

"If he waits - I don't think Conor wants to fight until August, but if he waits until August or September, that's around two years since the belt has been defended, and that can't happen". Many [fighters] will want to perform both in the UFC and at home at the same time. Nobody is interested in fighting for a fake belt.

Could this be the final push the UFC needed to arrange for McGregor to face Tony Ferguson before the summer is here?

It remains to be seen if the UFC brass would really go through with that given that McGregor is by far and away their biggest, most powerful star, but one person who believes they will is color commentator Joe Rogan.

Either way, 2018 will be one epic year at 155lbs.
