Real Madrid chief coach Zinedine Zidane is the ideal person despite the recent spate of poor results, the capital football club's former defender Francisco Pavon feels.

It's therefore possible the manager may look to make changes for the Villarreal clash, but improvements will be needed after Madrid looked so jaded against Celta.

"I can give my opinion and for me these two players are two great players especially because they have a lot of space for improvement".

"But apart from that we had a good game, and they did what they had to do". I don't see it like that.

Zidane said he accepted some Madrid supporters might think it unusual their club are not moving in the market this month, but the issue was it was hard to find an available player who would actually make a difference.

Zinedine Zidane has confirmed that he has signed a contract extension which will keep him at Real Madrid until 2020 but claims the new deal "means nothing". "But if you have a player that you want, that is available, that will bring you more than you have here, it can not be bad [to sign him]". So too has Real's form, and unless Zidane can whip his team into shape again, his time in charge could prove to be as short as it was successful.

Barca coach Ernesto Valverde insisted that despite the high-profile capture of Philippe Coutinho, who can't play for around three weeks due to a thigh injury, his team's character will not change with the Brazilian's arrival.

"We want the fans to come to the stadium to support their team", he said.

"You can analyse it as you like, that it's a moment of crisis or not, but we're here to find solutions". "Then you must show it on the pitch". The second half was not good, but we're not going to go insane about it. Ronaldo and boys ideally should win the game but they have conceded 9 of their last 13 home league games. "We're going to think that, with work, we will achieve good things". Yes, as always. That's what these meetings are for and you always get something positive. I do not think further than that.

Karim Benzema is also sidelined with a hip problem and is not expected back until later in January, per Marca's Pablo Polo.
