This action-adventure game will see players take on the role of young Tim Goodman, exploring Ryme City with his gruff, coffee-drinking and talkative partner Pikachu.

"When he arrives in Ryme City looking for his missing father, little does Tim know he would meet a Pikachu, but more amazingly a Pikachu who he could communicate with". The action-adventure aptly titled Detective Pikachu is being rolled out in the USA and the rest of the world on the Nintendo 3DS on March 23rd, according to an announcement from The Pokemon Company today.

"This Pikachu claims that he worked with Tim's father, and the two pair up to discover his whereabouts". Still, that won't keep me from pushing hard for Detective Pikachu in the next Smash Bros.

If you're wondering why Detective Pikachu can talk, well, that's not really explained. You can check out a new English trailer for the game below (which, sadly, doesn't feature the voice of Danny DeVito).

With the game expanding its horizons, the Pokemon Company is also creating a special Detective Pikachu Amiibo for use with the game. This new game, which is simply called Detective Pikachu, will feature all of the content from Birth of a New Duo (along with new content as well), bringing western players up to speed on the story so far. Missed some of the Pika Prompts during your investigation?

Here's a peek at the interior of the New Nintendo 2DS XL Pikachu Edition, which keeps the Pikachu color scheme going with brown ABXY face buttons and cross pad. Like all New Nintendo 2DS XL systems, it will play Nintendo 3DS games in 2D.

Detective Pikachu cracks the case on 3DS on March 23.
