It's the first Ford crossover to boast some serious performance tweaks, so here's a sneak peek.
With less than a week before all of the new reveals at the 2018 North American International Auto Show, Ford has unveiled its all-new Edge ST, the first SUV from the Ford Performance Team. It's paired to a specially-tuned eight-speed automatic transmission and sends power to the road via an all-wheel drive system.
The Ford Edge SUV has been given a bit of a facelift for and has been revealed ahead of its debut in the USA at the Detroit Motor Show. Set to be shown to the world at the Detroit show, the ST is powered by a 2.7-litre twin-turbo V6 with 335hp and 380lb ft - Ford says this is the most powerful V6 engine in its class, although the 400hp Macan Turbo may have something to say about that. The ST model gets some more heavily bolstered seats and unique leather patterns with silver seat stitching, along with different sill plates, a unique gauge cluster and an ST-branded steering wheel. This includes a large central grille opening and unique sculpting through the middle and bottom of the front fascia, introducing the same basic angular design that gives the ST cars their aggressive face.
The addition of the ST badge brings bigger wheels-21-inchers vs. 20s on the Edge Sport-a wider grille, dual exhausts, and a more aggressive body. That means it will be putting out a total of 335 horsepower and 380 lb. -ft. of torque, which isn't to be sniffed at. It will arrive from the factory with a stiffer suspension tune and be available in four new colors, most notable of which is the Ford Performance blue that you see in the pictures.
Talking about technology, the St comes with Sync 3 which features Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa integration and a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 devices. The sporty ST-Line is already an established part of the UK Edge lineup, and might soon channel a little more of the ST's sporting character than before.
It gets better for those living in the United States though. By contrast, the Ford Edge ST seems a bit half-hearted and restrained.
More standard safety features include forward collision warning, pre-collision assist, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, LED headlights and automatic high beams.
Notable tech features include the ability to locate, unlock, start, and lock the vehicle with a mobile app and connect up to 10 devices to in-car WiFi.
