Could Liverpool be the side to end City's unbeaten season?

Who should Arsenal sign in the January transfer window? Reports: Arsenal edge closer to signing £25 million Premier League star

He's masterminded an incredible campaign for Manchester City this season which includes being 15 points clear of nearest rivals, Manchester United, in the Premier League, to being in the next round of three different cups competitions.

But arguably the biggest test for Liverpool will be to contain Manchester City's midfield.

Pep Guardiola's side are unbeaten in their last 30 fixtures in the Premier League, but that is not to say that a Liverpool side minus their former star man can not end their hopes of being forever known as City's invincibles.

However, Anfield and the atmosphere there should give the Liverpool players that extra push that they need to win this game.

Manchester City have won 20 of their 22 games in the Premier League this season.

Disappointingly for Sterling, he has yet to feature in a City team to defeat Liverpool in the league and over 90 minutes.

However, Sadio Mane's first-half red card on Eastlands contributed to Liverpool FC's heavy loss to the Citizens in their top of the table meeting.

Sturridge has not been involved in a game since the Champions League victory over Spartak Moscow on December 6 having suffered with illness and injury.

I don't think Liverpool will be the first English team to beat Guardiola's charges this season - but given City's poor record at Anfield, I can't see them winning either. The arrival of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton for £75m was met with a mixture of joy and relief from the club's supporters, but the departure of Philippe Coutinho has left a Brazilian-maestro-shaped hole in the final third.
