Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Colombia worldwide Yerry Mina from Palmeiras on a five-and-a-half year deal. The Colombia worldwide will sign a 5-1/2 year contract with the Spanish side.

Umtiti has also been linked with a transfer away from Barcelona, with Manchester City and Manchester United among the clubs linked with triggering the France centre-back's €60m release clause.

Mina was a key part for Palmeiras when it won the Brazilian league in 2016 and was runner-up past year. He has won a Torneo Finalización (2014), a Colombian Superliga (2015) and a Copa Sudamericana (2015), with Santa Fe, as well as a Serie A with Palmeiras (2016).

Mina was expected to join the Catalan club in the summer for €9 million (£7.9 million), but with Javier Mascherano on the verge of leaving in January, along with first-choice defender Samuel Umtiti now on the sidelines, the deal was brought forward. "Without a doubt the Colombian has the potential to make it", Barcelona said in a statement on their website.

He also has nine caps for Colombia and is expected to be part of the squad that travels to Russian Federation in the summer for the World Cup. He had an opportunity.

On Wednesday, Palmeiras announced it had agreed to transfer Mina to Barcelona, first in the La Liga.
