Reports emerged on Tuesday suggesting that the Gunners were close to confirming the arrival of Pavon, who is seen as a like-for-like replacement for Alexis Sanchez.

The 21-year-old has also had two worldwide caps for Argentina, both coming in 2017.

Argentine news outlet TyC Sports have also published an update on Arsenal's Pavon interest on Tuesday.

Arsenal are said to be considering the forward as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez, who has been heavily tipped to join Manchester City this month, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

At 21 and having never experienced European football, Pavon would represent a risk.

Adding a striker remains Arsenal's top priority this winter and Arsene Wenger will have drafted a shortlist of a number of possible targets he could approach in the coming days.

The youngster is predominantly a right winger but is also capable of playing on the left and he sounds like he would certainly be an exciting player for the future.

While his finishing is not yet as refined as Sanchez's, the Argentina worldwide is more than capable of contributing in front of goal, too.

How much will Pavon cost?

Arsenal are thought to be holding out for a fee in the region of £30m, which would cover the signing of Pavon.

"For the moment, we have not received any proposal, formally or informally", he said, speaking following the presentation of new signing Carlos Tevez.

According to reports in both England and Argentina on Tuesday, Arsenal are interested in Boca Juniors forward Cristian Pavon.

"Unless a club comes along and pays the €35 million release clause, I don't think he will leave this year", he told Argentinian radio station Continental 590 (h/t ESPN FC's Adriana Garcia). I am not going to cut off his career, but we made him a nice contract so that he would be comfortable.
