According to published recollections from fans in attendance, the singer began performing his customary opening number, "Whiskey River", but was coughing and appeared to be having hard breathing.

Willie Nelson abruptly ended his concert in San Diego this weekend after coughing and experiencing breathing difficulties during the first song of his performance.

Fans who bought their tickets through Ticketmaster for his Saturday concert at Harrah's will receive automatic refunds, according to an email from the ticketing agency. In a statement, the venue said, "Unfortunately, due to illness, Willie Nelson's performance concluded early".

Nelson's press representative has since confirmed that the country music legend has "a bad cold or the flu" and has returned home to Texas to recover.

'Apologies all, Dad has the flu so we cancelled this week's gigs in Cali and Vegas, ' Lukas said, referencing a string of shows scheduled to be held at McCallum Theater in Palm Springs and the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

This is the third time Nelson has cut concerts short. "The altitude got to me I am feeling better now & headed for lower ground". Nelson is now scheduled to resume touring on February 7 with a show at Macon, Georgia's Macon City Auditorium.
